Our Story
Coffee & Brunch House: A Legacy Brewed with Heart and Heritage
“Sunday mornings were special in our family. They were a time to gather around Geda Amnah, our grandmother, for breakfast, creating memories over the simple joys of food and laughter. Our table was sprinkled with a mix of traditional Yemeni breakfast dishes and American classics, symbolizing our lives as Yemeni Americans, a beautiful blend of two worlds.
As we sipped warm Yemeni shahee alongside syrupy pancakes and spicy fasoolia, each meal brought us closer to our heritage. Breakfasts with Geda weren’t just about food; they were moments of love, unity, and belonging. After Geda’s passing, we carried on this tradition, bringing our own families together every Sunday morning. The flavors of nostalgia and spices of heritage on our table reflected not only our cultural roots but also a tribute to our husbands and families. Each dish carried the comforting familiarity of home, weaving together identity and tradition while adapting to a new environment that shaped our lives in unexpected ways.
This table became our inspiration for Dellah Coffee & Brunch House, a space where we could share this cultural experience with the community, hoping others might feel the same warmth and connection we did. Central to Dellah is Geda Amnah’s enduring legacy. Her presence taught us that every gathering, every meal, and every cup of coffee shared is an invitation to connect with each other.
"Dellah," which means 'coffee pot' in Arabic, is so much more than just our name. It symbolizes the hospitality deeply ingrained in Yemeni culture, where a coffee pot is always ready to welcome anyone who walks through the door. At Dellah, we honor this tradition deeply. Every cup of coffee and dish we serve, like our signature Jubani Coffee, is a way of sharing Geda Amnah's spirit, a tribute to the heritage she passed down to us.
Dellah's story is a testament to community, culture, and connection. Led by Yemeni women, Dellah is a space for families of all backgrounds to come together. Through our events and charity work, we build bridges, celebrate diversity, and create a space that feels like home for everyone who steps in. As Michigan’s only Yemeni-American fusion brunch spot, Dellah reflects our most cherished Yemeni values: faith, connection, hospitality, and the comfort of home.
This is the heart of Dellah, a story of family, tradition, and the rich tapestry woven through every cup of coffee, every meal, and every smile we share. It’s the story of bringing the warmth of Geda’s table to the world, one cup, one plate, and one connection at a time.”
